Fit Like Family Wellbeing

Elaine facilitated 1:1 and group creative sessions in partnership with the Fit Like Family Wellbeing Service in Aberdeen during this 18 month long project. With a focus on improving mental health and wellbeing through the provision of creative experiences, Elaine focussed on the individual needs, interests and desires of the children, young people and families she was working with, allowing for lots of exploring and experimenting with different creative art, design and craft techniques and materials.

Elaine has worked with different schools, creating sculptural textile characters that represent different themes and values that are important to each individal school. During these projects she Involved pupils in the design process and supported students to take part in some of the different techniques involved in the construction of the characters. Using photography as a tool to document the different stages of each project,  the creative journey of each character can be shared in the form of a visual presentation at the end of each project.

Elaine co-designed and delivered this creative art project inspired by the concept of ‘yarn bombing’ while collaborating with a primary school teacher. The aim of the project was to support skills development between artists and teachers. Involving students across all year groups of a primary school in Aberdeen, pupils and their families were invited to make pom poms at home to form part of an immersive outdoor installation. Working with small groups, Elaine and the teacher supported students to engage and work together in wrapping different coloured and textured yarn around trees in the surrounding area and including the pom poms to create a temporary colourful installation for all to enjoy..

Collaborate|Educate

Elaine’s solo exhibition - Smile - at Seventeen Gallery in Aberdeen, showcased over 30 soft sculptural characters that she recreated from children's drawings. Submitted by students from local primary schools, the drawings depicted people or things that made the children smile. Elaine captured the beautiful naivety, charm and imagination present in the original drawings, creating an exhibition that celebrated the playful world of textiles and the joyful and endearing innocence and honesty of childhood.
